That’s Right! The Cheaters came in at the #5 spot on WBAL’s Top 40 Emerging Maryland Bands For 2012.
“Annapolis-based group, The Cheaters, has released it’s first single since 2009. And, it’s a hot one. Hey Hey Rock N’ Roll is going to be big for these guys. At first listen I thought, “These guys have really matured musically. It’s smart music. It shows they’ve been around the bandstand more than a few times.” Be sure to check it out!”
“The solos are impressively clean and embody some of the Southern twang that comes with The Cheaters brand of rock. One thing that is certain after listening to “Midnight Run”, you won’t find a single dis-interesting second on the album, the solos are just one aspect that help make sure of it.”
“With its soaring guitars and heavy metal edge the Cheaters move beyond the mold of classic southern rock and bring a combination of sounds that delivers the goods…Here it is, Southern Metal Rock in all its glory fulfilling the desire of fans to hear a new sound but still show its roots.”

“This time, Morrison takes it to the windows, to the walls, with “Blow My Mind” by Baltimore rockers The Cheaters. He has lead singer and guitarist Jason Morton sprinting across the road in the middle of traffic, getting sucker punched by a biker and narrowly avoiding a train. And it’s impossible not to mention the dark-haired, alluring Jenn Themelis, who plays the carefree femme fatale to a tee.”
“If what the Cheaters are trying to get across is that their sound is more than a bit of a throwback to the kind of straightforward, hard-edge blues rock made famous by bands such as the Rolling Stones and the Faces — and that it recalls down-home American rock like that of Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Allman Brothers Band — then “whiskey-fueled” and “home-fried” are right on. Whatever you want to call it, it’s very catchy. ”
“The Cheaters’ debut album garnered praise on both sides of the Atlantic; most notably for its “whiskey-fueled, home-fried rock ‘n roll” sound. But the band’s trademark live shows are a non-stop showcase of the band’s energy and showmanship that immediately draws the crowd in, and leaves them hungry for more long after the last twang of the guitar.”
“To say it more succinctly, in rock terms, this album FREAKING RIPS! Ask yourself the last time you were blown away by a new rock release; real, authentic rock? Thank The Cheaters, because once Midnight Run hits the streets we’ll all have a reason to “Grab the whiskey (and) grab our friends.””
“Hailing from the Annapolis/Baltimore area and just barely qualifying for status below the Mason-Dixon Line, The Cheaters have nailed down the patois of classic southern rock, both musically and lyrically.
This foursome from Maryland sounds more like they were raised somewhere near 1970s Georgia, alongside The Allman Brothers’ boys and any number of members from Lynyrd Skynyrd (be it the original outfit or today’s tribute band), with their hard-driving electric guitar riffs, rugged vocals and songs that serve as odes to the Big Easy and the fiercest of black label whiskeys.”
